Projects (that work) - from getting more organised to recovery
Situation: “The project seemed a good idea at the time but there’s no structure and we’re so far off track, the funder is threatening to claim their grant back from us! There are too many things going on, not enough stuff getting done on time and it all feels a bit overwhelming.”
Issue: The grant application looked like a good idea but we were never clear if it would work. And it’s never been managed. There’s no real structure for getting projects done, decision making is unclear and there’s no system for task management or understanding capacity and outcomes.
Solution: Go back to first intentions and get clarity. Draft a new PID (project initiation document). Engage the stakeholders (including funder). Create a viable plan. Deliver the plan. Start to introduce project management methodology, project (and task) management tool across the team and organisation. Document learnings and share them.
Impact: We delivered on the intention, the funder was happy. The beneficiaries were elated and the project provided the groundwork for something much bigger and more impactful. Left behind simple processes, templates and checklists for ensuring the most important things get done, key projects delivered on time next time round.
I cut my teeth on projects at school and university and they form the logical basis of all my work. Whether you have a project in crisis or need to shape your Project Methodology or choose a project management tool… Book a chat to take the next steps in your journey.
